Dr. Desmond Ojumu Foundation was set up to assist the needy and less privileged in society. The Foundation recently came up with an empowerment scheme to give a new lease of life to the good people of Ijesa North Federal Constituency. The scheme includes training people on fashion designing, hair dressing, ICT and various forms of artisan works.
Hon. Olaniyi Agboola the Director-General of the Foundation while speaking with our correspondent said “ what we have in stock for our people is massive. It is dip entrepreneur idea that will not only make beneficiaries independent but will also make them employers of Labour. Our Principal, Dr Desmond Ojumu is of the firm belief that the unemployment circle in the country is breakable. That is why we have structured this particular exercise into five phases of distribution of free forms, interview, training to earn required skill, business training and distribution of empowerment materials.
We have completed the first two phases of distribution of forms and interview. Conducting an interview became imperative because we have observed sadly from previous experiences that some beneficiaries are not really interested in the training exercise hence they abandon the training midway or sell empowerment materials when they are given. To forestall this, we interviewed all applicants to sieve those that are sincerely interested. The training itself will resume anytime soon.
We have also observed that after completing the training stage some people don’t really know what to do with their newly acquired skill our team have put together training modules on entrepreneurship like proposal writing, sourcing for contracts with their new skill, how to spot opportunities etc. It is our hope that beneficiaries of this program are the next big thing waiting to happen in Ijesa North”
Prospective beneficiaries are very hopeful that this program will impact their lives positively.
