Mr Denis Jingi, the Abia State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) says the scheme has proved to be a veritable tool for nation’s cultural integration.

Jingi said this on Saturday during the 2021 batch “A” stream II corps members’ cultural carnival held at the NYSC camp in Umunna, Bende Local Government Area.

He said the carnival was intended to bring corps members together to showcase the nation’s rich and diverse cultural heritages.

The state NYSC co-ordinator further said the event, which was the climax of the camp activities, was needed to ease stress and create fun among the corps members.

Jingi, who commended the corps members for their colourful displays, charged them to embrace the cultures of their host communities during their primary assignment.

He urged them to engage in acts capable of fostering unity and peaceful co-existence among the different ethnic and religious groups.

According to him, national unity and integration remain the core value of the scheme.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event provided a platform for the participants to showcase their talents and rich cultures of their people.

The corps members, who were colourfully dressed in various cultural attires, competed across the 10 platoons.

Other highlights of the day included a solidarity walk, handing over of the torch of unity to platoons, among other events.

A corps member, Mr Francis Umeudu, lauded the initiative, saying, “it shows Nigeria is one, irrespective of tribe.”
